Mapping to a curved or spherical surface

Postby Jeffrey Yarus » Tue Jun 20, 2023 5:44 pm

I thought I saw a function in RGeostats that allows you to map to a sphere or a curved surface. I would like to create kriged and conditionally simulated maps (2D) that can be mapped to a curved surface. The idea is to produce maps over lager areas (like a country or Provence) and instead of using a projection systems to map in flat space, I want to map to curved surface. Does RGeostats provide such a function? I do see where you can calculate the variogram using non-euclidean distances. Thanks. Jeffrey

Any chance on getting a response to this question?

Dear Jeffrey
As far as I know, RGeostats can only run kriging or simulations on the whole sphere.
By using variety.define function, you will activate the mode where all distances are calculated on the sphere (not euclidean).
Please, have a look to the following vignette: http://rgeostats.free.fr/doc/Simsph.html
Hope this helps.
